National Economics Olympiad 2022
Time & Location
04 mrt 2022, 09:30 – 19:00
Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Burgemeester Oudlaan 50, 3062 PA Rotterdam, Netherlands
About the event
Individuals can register for the tournament in teams of three until February 20th, 2022. Depending on sign-ups this period can be extended. Participation in the competition is not guaranteed. If too many teams register, teams will be chosen to assemble a diverse set of teams from different programs from many universities, and based upon their justification for applying. Preference is given to Bachelor 3 or Master students due to the difficult nature of the exam. If an individual is no longer a student, they can still apply, and should fill in their alma mater and previous program in the application. Current students will be preferred. Phd students are not eligible to participate. Selection will not be based on the ability for a team to attend in-person. Teams that are not chosen to compete will still be allowed to attend to join the workshops and keynote lecture.
Given this is a national competition, participants must be from universities based in the netherlands or in special cases as being from a partner institution with the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam.
The olympiad will last 3 hours with students being required to finish the question in this given time. The questions are based on knowledge of economic topics and critical thinking in fields such as: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, International Economics/Finance, Current Global Events, Applied Econometrics, and more.
Students will be allowed to use a non-graphing calculator, scratch paper, pen/pencil, and erasers for the questions. Any non-permitted calculators, other electronic devices, written materials, or discussion with individuals not on their team to gain an advantage will be considered cheating and will cause their immediate disqualification.
Each question of the exam is worth a maximum of ten points; the creator of each question will determine how points are awarded for it. The team with the most points is given first place and will receive a compensation of 300 EUR, the second place team 150 EUR, and the third place team 75 EUR. There is a separate prize for the highest scoring team of Bachelor students; being compensated 75 EUR. This prize is only eligible if all team members are bachelor students. If the bachellor team is also one of the top three overall teams, they will receive both prizes.
Certificates of Honor will be given to each participant in recognition of participating in the Economic Olympiad regardless of their finishing place in the competition. Certificates of Appreciation will be given to all coordinators and professors that contributed to the making of the competition.
